Education

Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education forms the bedrock of a child’s educational journey, and at IHS Ethiopia, we prioritize quality early education. Our approach is centered on engaging well-qualified teachers and implementing an interactive curriculum that fosters a love for learning from an early age.

We also believe in equality of access to education, irrespective of gender, socio-economic background, or geographical location. Our initiatives ensure that early childhood education is inclusive, allowing all children to benefit from the foundations of learning. By creating a safe and supportive environment, we inspire young learners to explore, discover, and develop their potential.

At IHS Ethiopia, we provide children with the best possible start to their educational journey, ensuring that early childhood education is both engaging and impactful.

Primary Education

At IHS Ethiopia, we recognize the pivotal role of primary education in shaping a child’s academic journey. In addition to our commitment to primary education, we extend our support to pre-primary education, particularly in crisis-affected areas. IHS provides school-based psychosocial support in pre-primary and primary schools, offering emergency classes to conflict-affected children in the Tigray region.

In the 2022/2023 academic year, IHS supported 1290 pre-primary school children in Afar, emphasizing community involvement through the Parent Teachers Association (PTA). Our efforts aim to ensure gender balance, sustaining female participation from pre-primary education onward.

To strengthen the competencies of teachers and school management, IHS:

  • Clearly defines roles, duties, and responsibilities within the school community.
  • Enhances competencies through in-house and on-the-job training.
  • Empowers parent-teacher associations for effective school management.
  • Provides high-quality initial training on pre-school activities and child-focused teaching-learning methodologies.

To improve the learning environment, IHS:

  • Plans construction or renovation of facilities to create conducive spaces for learning.
  • Focuses on early detection and support for children with special needs.
  • Promotes the inclusion of vulnerable children through community sensitization.
  • Equips early childhood education centers with adequate learning and teaching materials.
  • Establishes strong links with primary schools to ensure a seamless transition for preschool graduates into primary education.

Life Skills

Education is not solely about academics; it’s also about equipping students with essential life skills. At IHS Ethiopia, we are deeply committed to nurturing students not just as learners but as individuals who can thrive in all aspects of life. Our “Life Skills” program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and abilities they need to navigate the challenges of the real world.

Through this program, we emphasize skills such as effective communication, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, and resilience. These life skills empower students to not only succeed academically but also to thrive personally and professionally. We also focus on promoting healthy living, financial literacy, and real-world applications, helping students develop the tools they need to excel in a rapidly changing world.

In addition to acquiring these skills, students are encouraged to apply them in practical settings. We believe that an education that goes beyond textbooks and classrooms is essential for a well-rounded development. Join us in our mission to empower the next generation with these vital life skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Access To School

At IHS Ethiopia, we understand the critical importance of ensuring access to education for all children. Based on data that suggests several barriers can prevent children from attending school, including financial limitations and geographical challenges, we have taken decisive steps to eliminate these obstacles.

One of our essential initiatives is our scholarship programs, which offer financial support to students facing economic hardships. These scholarships alleviate the financial burden of education, ensuring that every child can pursue learning. Additionally, we recognize that some students face long and arduous commutes to school, which is why we provide transportation support to make the journey more accessible.

To further ease the educational journey, we equip students with the essential resources they need, including textbooks and school supplies. By providing these resources, we aim to ensure that children have all the tools required for a successful education.

Our commitment is to make education accessible to every child, regardless of their background or challenges they may face. We believe that this approach creates opportunities for children to learn, grow, and build a brighter future by providing unrestricted access to quality education.

Promotion of Right to Education

At IHS Ethiopia, we are champions of education, firmly believing that it is a fundamental right, not a privilege. We are unwavering in our commitment to promoting the right to education for every child, as it is a right enshrined in international declarations and integral for personal growth, societal development, and economic progress.

Our programs and advocacy efforts are at the core of our work. We actively raise awareness about the significance of education and advocate for policies that uphold the right to education. Our engagement extends to communities, where we address cultural, societal, and economic barriers that may hinder a child’s access to education.

Through collaboration with parents, community leaders, and local authorities, we ensure that educational opportunities are extended to every child, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic background. Our aim is to create a world where every child’s right to learn is not just respected but actively upheld.

We are resolute in our belief that education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and building a brighter future. We are committed to ensuring that this right is realized for every child, everywhere, as we strive to make the dream of quality education a reality for all.

Conductive Learning Environment

At IHS Ethiopia, we understand the profound impact that a conducive learning environment has on a child’s education. We are dedicated to creating spaces where children can thrive academically and personally, providing the support needed for effective learning.

Our investments in education extend to well-designed classrooms, libraries, and educational facilities. These spaces are designed to offer a secure and comfortable environment for students, with safety measures as a top priority to ensure a protected learning setting.

Our teaching methods are designed to encourage active participation, inclusivity, and the development of critical thinking skills. Classrooms are equipped with interactive tools and technologies that engage students and facilitate dynamic learning experiences. We place a significant emphasis on having well-qualified teachers who receive continuous support and professional development to make the learning environment inspiring and empowering.

Parents are encouraged to play an active role in their children’s education, strengthening the home-school partnership. The local community is also engaged in maintaining and improving the learning environment, ensuring that schools are responsive to their needs. In this way, we believe that a conducive learning environment is key to fostering the growth and development of young minds, helping them realize their full potential.

Inclusive Education

Inclusive education is a fundamental principle at IHS Ethiopia. We firmly believe that every child, regardless of their abilities or differences, deserves the right to a quality education. Inclusion is not just a philosophy; it’s the core of our educational approach.

Our inclusive education programs are built on the foundation of diversity and acceptance. We create a learning environment where all students, regardless of their backgrounds, can feel welcomed and valued. We work tirelessly to eliminate the stigma associated with differences and disabilities, creating a culture of inclusion and respect.

Inclusive education means ensuring that every child can actively participate in the learning process. Our teaching methods are adapted to meet individual needs, and additional support is provided when necessary. Our goal is to create a learning environment where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential, free from prejudice and discrimination.

We firmly believe that inclusive education is not only a right but a powerful catalyst for social change, and we are dedicated to fostering it in all our educational initiatives.

Provision of Scholastic Materials

Access to scholastic materials is an indispensable aspect of quality education, and at IHS Ethiopia, we are committed to ensuring that every student has access to the materials they need to learn effectively.

We understand that without the necessary books, stationery, and learning resources, a student’s educational journey can be hindered. To address this, we provide students with essential scholastic materials, eliminating this barrier to learning.

By ensuring that every student has access to these materials, we aim to create a level playing field for all, irrespective of their backgrounds or circumstances. We firmly believe that every student should have the opportunity to explore the world of knowledge and develop their potential.

At IHS Ethiopia, we are dedicated to providing students with the materials they need to learn and grow, ensuring they can make the most of their educational journey.
